Hi…. Welcome to this Woman’s work.
My name is Rebecca Mack and I live in London with my husband, whom I have shared my life with for nearly three decades, my two amazing teenager daughters and our fat cat Coco. In 2024 at the age of 50 I started to write, initially just for myself. I had worked through decades of personal healing whilst being employed in some of the toughest jobs in health care - midwifery and mental health.
I had also worked through decades of raising my daughters, maintaining a marriage, and supporting my aging parents. I had worked hard and 50 was a sweet spot for me. With my girls needing me less, my marriage in good shape and facing semi-retirement from the demands of the NHS, all the writing that had been swirling in my head for so long, made it to the page. It has gone better than I could have imagined, with many of my posts and notes going viral here on Substack.
My writing is a culmination of my professional experiences, my personal life and my political beliefs. I have always had a strong political arm and since the re-election of Trump in 2024, I have felt compelled to flex my political muscles. I abhor Trump. Like most writers I have experienced and overcome more than my fair share of personal trauma, adding extra layers to my writing. My professional life has allowed me to witness the best and worst of the human condition and has given me unique insights into suffering, survival and joy.
This Woman’s work is the point at which my personal, professional and political experiences intersect, making me the writer that I am today. Feel free to dip your toes, there is a variety to choose from…..
I don’t mind dropping the odd ‘F’ bomb when necessary as this viral note demonstrates:
I am happy to share my 20 years of learning in the NHS as in this post, liked by over 600 readers:
I also feel it is important to share some personal insights with my community and so I write pieces that might resonate on a different level. Like this popular post about coming back to life in my 50s:
Why join me?
Now more than ever we need community. We need to support each other. We need to speak and we need to be heard. We all deserve better. With more than 50 years of diverse experience behind me, this feels like the perfect time to use my voice, my insights, my passion and compassion to build a community of like-minded souls. Appreciation and gratitude for what we have and how far we have come, can sit along side the desire to improve our lives and the lives of everyone around us. We are living in challenging times but we can face them better together.
What’s the tea all about?
Well I am British for a start and tea is a well known cure for all ills. So think of my Substack as my virtual kitchen table, where a pot of hot tea is always brewing. A refuge from the storms of life, a place to plot and plan for better things ahead, a welcoming and friendly meeting space for reflection, resistance, rejuvenation and rest. Bring your rage and your peace. Both are welcome. The view from my virtual (and actually kitchen table where I write) changes with time. Let’s embrace the flow and dare to hope and fight for better. One cup of tea at at time.
Sounds like a place for you?
Come and join the community. All are welcome. Free subscribers receive occasional posts, and if you really want to the full paid experience but you can’t afford it, let me know and I will find a way to leave a key under the mat for you. Everyone deserves a seat at the table. Paid members get access to all my posts, my archives, excerpts from the book I writing (my story of being a professional and patient in the NHS), and access to chat.
