Hello you!…. A warm welcome to This Woman’s Work….

Who is This Woman?

(Grey hair, don’t care - I am 51, I live by my own rules now).

My name is Rebecca Mack. I am originally from the North West of England but moved to London 26 years ago when I met my husband. I am a mum to 2 amazing daughters aged 20 and 15 and a ‘cat mum’ to our family cat Coco. In 2024 at the age of 50, I started to write. I had worked through decades of essential personal healing whilst simultaneously being employed in some of the toughest jobs in the National Health Service (NHS) - as a midwife and a mental health recovery support worker. I had worked hard. I had learned a lot. I had a lot to write about. Especially about women.

(Tired of London? Not me. Its my home town. Snapped on an evening walk.)

Why now?

Age 50 was a sweet spot for me. With my girls needing me less, my marriage in good shape and facing semi-retirement from the demands of the NHS, I began to share my experiences, stories, observations and social commentary here on Substack. It has gone better than I could have imagined, with many of my posts and notes going viral. So well in fact that I have now left my job and am a full time writer.

What do I write about?

This Woman’s Work is the beautiful point at which my personal, professional and political experiences intersect, making me the holistic writer that I am today. Truthful and warm yet sharp and acerbic. Always authentic.

MIDLIFE, MOTHERHOOD, MIDWIFERY, MISOGENY, MARRIAGE, MENTAL HEALTH (definitely NO MAGA, I am fiercely anti-Trump). Its all here. Women focused, men always welcome. Feel free to dip your toes, there is a variety to choose from …..

Why join me?

After years of personal and professional struggles, I have found my own kind of peace, gleaned from hard work and many unique, sometimes painful, sometimes beautiful experiences. I want share what I have learned and support you in your journey for better. I want better for everyone. Especially women. Appreciation and gratitude for what we have and how far we have come, can sit along side the desire to improve our lives and the lives of everyone around us. We are living in challenging times but we can face them better together. This Woman’s Work is an amazing community of people who understand that we deserve to thrive, not just survive.

Cup of tea? ☕

I am British and tea is a well known cure for all ills. Think of my Substack as my virtual kitchen table, where a pot of hot tea is always brewing. A refuge from the storms of life, a place to plot and plan for better things ahead, a welcoming and friendly meeting space for reflection, resistance, rejuvenation and rest. A place to celebrate life and our individual and collective successes. Bring your rage and your peace. Both are welcome. The view from my virtual (and actually kitchen table where I write) changes with time. Let’s embrace the flow. One cup of tea at at time.

Sounds like a place for you?

Come and join the community. All are welcome. Free subscribers receive occasional posts. Paid members get access to all my posts and archives. If you really want to the full paid experience but you can’t afford it, let me know and I will find a way to leave a key under the mat for you. Everyone deserves a seat at the table.

Coco and a cup of tea can always be found at my kitchen table. Come and join us.
