I have similar mental moments (although without the personal consequences or, indeed, the swearing) every time I read about his dealings with Ukraine, the most recent being in response to Phillips O’Brian’s excellent piece yesterday on the Capitulation Deal. This more or less sums them up:

Oh, believe me, Rebecca, some of them are just as vile in real life. You might remember my parents and their Republican affiliations. Over the years, going home, having to deal with their friends and neighbours and their absolute idiocy.
In a small sliver of good news, because of Ukraine and my ties - I'm going to assume - they've sworn off Trump, but it's all a bit too little too late as far as I'm concerned.
Yay 🙌🏻… I’m so happy your parents have seen the light! I mean, yes a bit late to join the anti-Trump party but we will accept any stragglers at this point
Rebecca, thank you for writing this. Even from across an ocean, your willingness to stand up for people who are being harmed, diminished, or erased lands with real impact. Those of us trying to hold the line here feel that solidarity more than you know. It matters when someone sees what is happening and refuses to look away.
I read your piece with equal parts admiration and gratitude. Your commitment to speaking plainly, to naming cruelty when you see it, and to offering care to people you may never meet reminds me why voices like yours are so important right now. I know what it feels like to watch all of this unfold from inside the country, and it can be isolating. Reading your words made me feel a little less alone. Thank you for your courage and your compassion. And thank you for standing with everyone in the US who are trying, every day, to choose humanity in a moment that keeps testing it.

I’m by far not the only one. So many of us are standing with you and will do until this nightmare is over. And it will be over. One day. I’m sure of that.

Well done, you, and it's remarkable, isn't, the effect of a bit of unfiltered venting? I'm with you on 'never post in anger' thought - fuck it, right? If it needs to be said, it needs to be said.

As one unfiltered person to another, sometimes you just got to let it out haven’t you? Chances are there are so many other people that agree with you (43k in this case!).
I’m not sure how you know the reaction to the note did not change behaviour beyond that moment Ruv. I am not sure how you know that any one of those 43K people did not feel heard and embolden to actually do something to make a change… write to Congress, challenge a MAGA supporter, join an activism group.
Viral solidarity can create friction where it matters. Being heard emboldens people to be more vocal, more active, increases resistance.
Or if you have an alternative go for it. You do you. I would argue my note did make an impact… but like I say, you are free to make your own.
